Common Question For New Jersey Homeowners

Why should I test for mold? Can’t I just remove visible mold?

Testing identifies the type and concentration of mold spores in your air, which is crucial even if you see visible growth. Some molds are more hazardous than others, and what you see might only be a small part of a larger, hidden problem. Testing provides the data needed to tackle the issue effectively and safely.

What’s the advantage of using an unbiased, independent testing company?

Companies that both test and remediate have a financial incentive to find a problem. As an independent firm, we provide only the scientific facts and data. You can trust our results and recommendations because we never profit from selling you remediation services.

What does your mold testing process involve?

Our process is thorough and scientific. For a standard assessment, we conduct a visual inspection, take air samples from both inside and outside (for comparison), and surface samples from any suspicious areas. These samples are then analyzed by an accredited third-party laboratory to provide you with a detailed report.

How long does the testing process take?

The on-site sample collection typically takes 1-2 hours, depending on the size of your home and number of samples required. After we send the samples to the lab, you will receive your comprehensive report within 3-5 business days.

Will testing tell me what kind of mold I have?

Yes. Our lab analysis identifies the genus (and sometimes species) of the mold present. This is important because different types of mold can have different health implications and can help identify the source of moisture.

Is mold testing expensive?

The cost of testing is a small investment compared to the potential cost of unchecked mold damage to your property and health. We offer transparent, upfront pricing for our different testing packages because we believe in no surprises.

My home is new/clean. Can it still have a mold problem?

Absolutely. Mold is caused by excess moisture, not dirt. Even new homes can have mold issues due to construction defects, leaking appliances, plumbing leaks, or poor ventilation that leads to high humidity. Any water event, if not dried properly within 24-48 hours, can cause mold growth.

Are the chemicals used in testing safe for my family and pets?

Our testing process is non-invasive and uses completely safe methods. Air sampling simply pulls air through a sterile cassette. Surface sampling uses sticky swabs or tape lifts. There are no chemicals, fumes, or toxins used that would harm your family or pets.

What if the test results come back negative?

A negative result is great news! It means your indoor air quality is not currently being impacted by elevated levels of mold spores. The cost of the test buys you peace of mind and a baseline report for your records.

What if the test results come back positive?

Don’t panic. A positive result provides you with the powerful information you need to take action. Our detailed report will clearly outline the types and levels of mold found and, most importantly, include actionable recommendations for addressing the moisture source and next steps for remediation.

Do you provide a remediation plan?

As an unbiased testing company, we provide a detailed scope of work based on the lab results. This document outlines what needs to be done to properly remediate the problem, which you can then use to get accurate, comparable bids from qualified remediation contractors. We do not perform the actual cleanup ourselves.

Should I test for mold myself with a DIY kit from a hardware store?

We do not recommend DIY kits. They are often unreliable, prone to user error, and cannot provide an accurate analysis of the air quality in your entire home. They also lack a crucial control sample (outdoor air) for comparison. Professional equipment and lab analysis ensure accurate, defensible results.

I’m having health symptoms. Will testing prove mold is the cause?

Mold testing can prove that elevated levels of mold are present in your environment, which is a known irritant and allergen. While we cannot provide a medical diagnosis, we can provide the environmental data that you and your healthcare provider can use as a piece of the puzzle.
